The more you know!

Pregnancy does not provide women or their babies any additional protection against STDs.  Many STDs are ‘silent’ and have no symptoms so you may not know if you are even infected.

STDs are caused by STIs that have been passed from one person to another during sexual contact.  If you have been sexually active you may already have an STI and not know it.

Once an STI produces symptoms it is then referred to as an STD.[1]  Not all STIs result in STDs.  If you have had sexual contact without using condoms or other barriers, your risk for STIs is heightened.

The Pearson Place Pregnancy Resource Center can help answer your questions about STIs and explain how to reduce your chances of contracting one and where to obtain STI testing.  All of our services are free and confidential.
